I have LPF and RPF settings on my headunit and I can choose them to be on 40 htz, 80 htz, 120 htz, 160 htz or flat... what does this mean? What should I have them on to make my subs pound nicely and clearly? Also, what frequencys should I have my headunit on? Im clueless on this stuff. Thanks

Its probably not RPF, its most likely HPF. The LPF settings won't effect your subs at all, they effect the speakers. The HPF will effect the subs, set that to as low a point as possible.

I'm assuming you have an alpine deck, since pioneer doesn't have a 9830 model.

Reverse that.

HPF is the highpass filter for the speakers. Basically, it attenuates all the frequencies below the frequency you select, so that only the "higher" frequencies are going to the speakers and it helps reduce the amount of bass they play (which will help reduce their distortion). The LPF is the lowpass filter, which attenuates all the frequencies above the frequency you select that way the higher frequencies aren't being played by your sub, that way it will only play the bass.

Leave them both flat and use the lowpass filters on your sub amps instead. 70-80 Hz is good. When you have amped speakers you'll use the hipass mode, either from the HU or the amp.
