RMS Sub Match?

I have a JL 10W0v3 BassWedge, slot ported, rated for 300 watts RMS. I intend on using the Pioneer PRS-D800 amp, which bridged is also 300 watts RMS.

So the question is, should I have more RMS on hand, or is the intended sub/amp combination a proper match?

A lot of us like to have what we call head room, that way we have more power on tap, as not to try to make an amp produce more that it is capable. Say you have a sub that is capable of handling 400 watts rms, we would typically have an amp that can realistically produce 800 watts rms, that way we can cleanly give said sub the power it needs to perform properly. But, with that being said, just because a given sub can take 1000 watts rms, doesn't mean one has to provide it that 1000 watts. This hobby is a lot more than just buying stuff and tossing it in your vehicle, there should be a lot of research, and thought in what you goals and intentions are. It can be enjoyable, and daunting, all at the same time. The one thing that those of us that are serious about it understand about it, is how addictive it really is. Once you get used to what you have been running, you start trying to reach the next plateau, that is to say the next new horizon. I have personally had over 20 variations in the past 10 years, and in the midst of another 'upgrade' now.

Thanks macsdad. I was thinking more power/headroom might be a good idea.

The last time I had a "system" was back in the 80's. Alpine HU (forget the model), ADS 642csi, ADS PS5 driving Cerwin Vega 5.25 coax in the doors and an ADS PQ20 driving 2 6.5" Bazooka Bass tubes (all the rage back then lol) in the trunk of my small Celica. Those old school amps were awesome.

I had the bug back then //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif . Ever since, life took off, and I never had the time to get back to an aftermarket system. Lots of products these days. Have been able to pick up nice deals on the new equipment. Might have to take a second look at my sub choice (being 4 ohm). Thanks for the help!
