RMS question

I have a set of alpine type s 5x7s that are rated for 75rms and an alpine f250 amp which is 40x4 or 100x2. would it be better to run the speakers at 40 or 100? which is less likely to blow them?

less power is obviously less likely to blow them, but if you bridge the amp and set your gains properly you shouldnt have a problem

40w is less likely to blow them. Additionally, the 75w 'rating' is for the pair...not each individual driver. Gotta love marketing

wow well thats handy to know, so their actually more like low 30's per side? and I was just wondering because i have read that too little power causes clipping. Im new to this stuff as you probably already figured out

To little power is just like running at a lower volume. When people don't have enough power they crank the gain to make it louder, distortion seems louder. To much distortion will blow them. Some distortion is ok and even needed

thanks guys so it seems 40 is the way to go, ill get that wired up tomorrow, while were at it if anyone has another set of 5x7's for my back speakers, or maybe front that they might want to sell im interested. Or am i asking in the wrong place?
