So how does that work then, do I need to provide him with a diagram or what? Do I just tell him the subs I have and the vehicle they're going in to, and that I wanted it ported, orrr...

You tell him your subs, how much space you have, what your expectations are SQ, SQL, or SPL. He does boxes for 100$ +shipping. Its a good idea to call and talk to him, very good guy.

What kind of timeline would there be for that? I figure most of these other parts will be here by this coming friday, I wonder if he would be able to build and ship it quick enough to meet them here. Im almost tempted to attempt to make a box myself, I just really dont know if im up for it, although I'm sure I have the skills required.

He is very fast, but it depends on how many projects he has, your best bet is to call him and figure it out... He told me he can do it in a few days if its not an extensive project. I'm all for learning, but I am also lazy.

Personally, it was a good choice for me. No headach. sounds good.

Okay so I went through with the purchase on the AB subs and amp, the pioneer deck, and the knu kit. Tomorrow I will try to contact Starr Mountain Sound and talk with him about the box. I will probably leave the rest of it to best buy when I have them install it. Would anyone be able to comment on their pricing? Do you consider it fair? Obviously you would all choose to install it yourself, I just really don't feel like doing it...It's always such a hassle.

Could anyone provide links through amazon or ebay to the harness and faceplate (thingy?) for my dash that I would need? I have a 1998 Tahoe LS.

They quoted me a $500 install job for JUST the HU, con artists. The deck did have navigation which is hard to set up, but not worth anywhere near $500...

I know of a small shop down the road but when I stopped in I felt like he was trying to rip me off, I didn't really feel too compelled to give him my business, but if he can do it cheaper ill probably end up going to him anyway. If that's the case though I would feel inclined to buy the rest of the hardware online. Whats the going rate for a complete installation (deck, wiring, amp, sub) if I bring in all the hardware. I know you couldn't give me an exact price but what you might think is fair or would be average for something like that.

I dont think thats what I need considering it is already in my truck. Isnt it an adapter that goes in place of the stock stereo so a standard deck would fit?

I would think a fair price would be at or around 600$ for a complete professional installation. Its at least 4 hours of work for one guy to do it properly, that's if he is quick. Running the power/speaker/rca's wire is kind of a pain, especially if they are well hidden.

If you have a free weekend you could do it yourself and save the money.

There should be a mounting bracket in your truck, take your old radio off and use the mounting bracket to hold the new deck in. You may need a dash kit if you are going from a double din to a single din or vice versa.

No way $600 would be fair. I've done it a couple times and would never dream of charging that. Given that they probably have more than one person and are well versed in the area of installation it should be pretty easy for them. I would think anything more than $200 for everything is a little pricey.
