i've owned the 9887 and eclipse cd7000 and i'm in the process of deciding whats next, either a pioneer p9, alpine double din with 701 processor, or an eclipse 7100 just can't decide if the p9 or 701 is worth the money.
I liked the cd7000 a little better then the 9887, the 9887 had a strange noise at 0db, not volume 0 but if you played a track that was recorded at 0db silence it had a noise that I couldn't figure out, i'm thinking it was actually the cd spinning and barely outputting from the radio...the cd7000 didn't have this
thats the only gripe i had with the 9887 besides that AWESOME unit, but I'm an eclipse guy...only thing the eclipse doesn't have is a pause button which isn't a big deal either.
Also on the eclipse it doesn't have a "sub" out rca, its non fader because you don't want the woofers fading either way to pull your sound stage or attention to the rear of the vehicle, you want a mono signal.
The SVC that others mentioned was the source volume control which would let you adjust for different inputs (cd changer, ipod, sirius, cd, radio..etc etc) so you didn't have to adjust volumes when switching playback methods.
The NF control on the unit is the subwoofer control
