REVIEW: 9887 vs. 880prs vs. CD7100

have you been playing with the Media Expander settings at all? I have found that to be a great feature to enhancing the sound for various sources i am using.
Yup, love it!

the 7100 doesnt have subwoofer level adjustment? you sure?
my cd5000 has it. you press the volume button like with the older alpines. and if your on "advanced mode" it goes through:

vol>bal>fade>Non-fad>SVU (or SCU or something like that lol)

the non fade being the subwoofer level control. i find it hard to believe the top of the line eclipse wouldnt not have a sub level control. not saying its not a possibility, just that its hard to believe for me

edit: your #3 and #7 are clashing on info. says no subwoofer control on the 7100 in #3 but then #7 describes the non fade that i mentioned above.
Yea the #7 is supposed to be when active, in #3 its in standard mode where there is just level control on the CD7100. The #7 is not sub control, its non fad instead and you can adjust.

I ahve AUX input on my 880... it has a small 2.5mm plug or whatever, that's how I run my mp3 player (Zem Vision:M). It just plugs underneath the faceplate.

Great review. I don't think I will be trading my 9255 in any time soon but I need a new deck for the work van //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Nice review Parag //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

I've owned the CD7000 (basically the CD7100 minus 3v's), and now the CDA-9887. I do have to agree that the preouts on the 9887 are pretty strong. I have not adjusted my gains since intalling it. I actually wanted to bring them down just a tad on my 4ch.

The 9887s' face has a very solid feel as you stated.

Woud have been nice if Alpine stuck with the option of making all the buttons green.

I wished Alpine would have gone back to BBE, I for one do not like the Media Xpander function. To me it just seems as it boosts certain frquencies too much, not just in the low range, and makes the music sound un-natural and harsh at times. I think Eclipse's version, the Multi-Harmonizer does a much better job.

I have used the auxillary function on the CD7000. It works very nice, and it also allows you to adjust it for different voltage levels.

Thanks! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I love mine as well!
Nice write up! Good thing the Alpine isnt motorized because my 9813 started rattling after a year.

Thanks man. Ya, I'm happier without the motorized issues //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

my 9887 is definately not charging my Ipod when it is hooked up. the battery is slowly draining instead. my ipod charges fine when hooked up to my computer so i know that there is nothing wrong with the battery.

thoughts anyone?

IIRC There's Aux1 and Aux2.

I forget which one is which, but one is the 2.5mm headphone jack on the front (where you plug the mic in) and the other is a separate unit on the back, I think it goes where the ipBus thingy would go.

Yes, they are definitely beefy. I beat the snot out of this one to find it's limits and it took it rather well. For the abuse I put it through and...
