reversing phase???

what do you need to hear or see to know to reverse phase, i was reading on here and few post say the subs should be reversed with the rest of the speakers

right now i have a set of comps that are wired normal +to+ and -to- and subs are the same as well, my subs are just 2 12's ported, so wat should i look for to see if phases need to be reversed or is there no point

idk the right way exactly...but one way you could try, is turn the crossovers on both ur comps and subs so that they can both play the same frequencies, then use say an 80-100hz tone (something they can both handle and play decently), fade out the comps and see how that changes the overall loudness of the tone. If it sounds quieter without the comps, then they are in proper phase, if it sounds even just a little bit louder without the comps, then they are out of phase and you can reverse either your subs or your comps

eitherway...you won't notice a difference when you're listening to music so there isn't a whole lot of point anyway, other than in knowing that it's 'right'

yea well when i dont have the comps hooked up and just the subs its not as loud then when i hook the comps up its much louder so i think everything should be right, just wanted to check and see how people figure out how if their system is in phase or not

i know wat it means but how do you kno if something needs to be reversed, as in what to listen for or to look for on the subs or comps to know to change the phase or not

Not really a great method.

In a bass-heavy ground pounder system you probably won't notice much of a difference. But in a sound quality oriented system proper phasing of all speakers, including the subwoofer, is important. Proper phasing for the subwoofer will affect imaging and integration of the sub with the rest of the system.

I'm aware its not a great method thats why I stated that

I don't think many people with his subs (especially not king ranch of all people) are looking for a sound quality oriented system, and he probably won't even notice the difference anyway

okay, i am wondering the same thing, i have two comps in a sealed box, i am looking to get towards an SQ design, slowly but surely getting there.

I am installing 2 memphis 12's in a week or two (they are sittin in my room, wating to build boxes) and i do not have comps in the front at the moment, so how can i check this.

I have a prelude and the box for the memphis subs will be in the cab so i have less distortion and vibration from the trunk, i want this to be right, is it simply a matter of making sure all the wiring is correct? (all positives go to positives and vise versa with the neg's)

i have a dmm if i need it, what is the best way for me to check it out?

most of the time, reversing phase does not make a huge difference between the mids and subs. its affects are centered around the crossover points. try them both ways and see if one sounds better than the other.
