replaceing door speakers

Well my stock speakers are 4x6. Going with 6.5" would probaly be better since 4x6's wont put out like some 6.5" will. Should I mod my door for some 6.5" or get some kick panels? Was thinking of some adapters and then a spacer since 6.5's are too deep and wont let my windo go down all the way. I would go with the adapters before kick panels, Kick panels are a pain in the *** to make, and alot more expensive to buy.

I was looking at adapters similar to that for my Achieva. But I noticed that their cutout diameter was only 5.5 inches, smaller than most 6.5 speakers. So I'm just going to build my own adapters from MDF. Then I can shape them however I want and add extra rings to bring them out farther too.

Here's when I still ran 4" speakers in my front doors as that was the factory size. (A pair of 2-way Infinity References I eBayed for $30/shipped)

When I decided to upgrade to some 6.5" components I simply made some MDF spacers that would allow for the midwoofers to sit on the door panels while still being able to roll down the windows and before mounting the driver to the spacer covered them with some carpet that matched (more or less) my interior. It's an old pic from when I used to run Diamond M3 comps which shows the midwoofer with the grille off of it as opposed to the M6 units I use now but the mounting is still the same...

Not very labor intensive and if Prowler can manage to figure it out then I'll wager so can you!
