I have four 6.5" Powerbass midwoofers, one per door panel, and four complementary tweeters in each door panel as well. I've noticed that the sound is horrifically harsh. I can't play tune my head unit to anything but "speaker inside a bucket" without being bombarded with high tones.
• Head unit: Pioneer DEH-3100UB
• Amplifier: Infinity 4-ch amp (unsure of model number), but it's 110W RMS per channel and 1000W peak across all four.
• Speakers: Four 6.5" Powerbass components (door panels) and 2 6x9 Infinity Reference 3-ways (rear deck)
The way I have my head unit set up is no high pass filter, no bass, no loudness, etc.
EQ 1 is at Lows +3, Mids + 2, Highs +2 or often +1.
EQ 2 is set to Low 100Hz 02W, Mids 2KHz 01W, Highs 8KHz 01N
The amp has the bass boost knob turned up to about the middle, and the crossover is just before the middle on the low side.
I used to have woofers, but the amp and one sub (Diesel audio with dual Sony Xplod subs) went bad. I took them out recently and surprisingly don't notice a drastic difference except for the lack of a lot of growling noises.
How's the description? I can give more info, but please ask so I know what to describe.
The issue I'm having is that my speakers could sound fantastic. However, they shriek too much so that cymbals come out crystal-clear and in fact too piercing while mids are kind of muted. I really want to blame the speakers and buy something else, but I want to know first if there's something I can do to fix this. I know that if I want the sound system to sound worse, I can set the EQ 2 mids to 500Hz 01N and highs to 3KHz 01N, and then the piercing highs just vanish. However, it's like listening to an alarm clock's speaker. Also, I've gotten compliments from a couple music professionals (both aged well over the hill with their own home studios not used for rap music), but that was with mid loudness and different tuning. That was absolutely horrifying for me to listen to for long stretches of time, but I have to admit that all the highs, mids, and lows were perfectly reproduced and all were equally piercing.
I'm not sure about how much further I can get with typing even more, so please ask a lot of questions and help me explain more to you with less text. I'd really appreciate the help! Thanks!
