replace desktop

has anyone bought a laptop to replace their desktop? well this morning my computer was fine.. then take a nap and turn it back on.. and my motherboard won't detect my sata HDD at all.. ive done everything changed out the sata cables bought another hdd done everything.. it will detect my sata optical drive though... comp been giving me problems lately thinking of just buying a gaming laptop to replace it... just wondering if many people here have done the same

I did but got another desktop not too much longer. The laptop was nice but I just didn't like playing games on it.

I wouldn't but that's just me. More than likely your pc was giving you problems long before this and you were ignoring them. I think it's just user error. Did you ever explore the option of using an IDE hard drive?

I purchased a laptop shortly after my mobo went out on my desktop. I completely got rid of the desk and bought a bookshelf to put there. My wife and I own our own little library I think. I love the laptop. built in wifi, only cable is to charge it, takes up no space. I sit on my couch, pull up a dinner table, the ones you use when at your couch or chair, turn it on and thats it.

It's cool till something goes wrong. I have a laptop that I use when I am out of town or something like that. other than that, it just sits there.

yeah have done that and used different sata cables.. even try to use a PCI sata Card thinking maybe some of my SATA ports were fryed but sense Optical worked that was a waste of time.

Stopped using IDE few years back... Sata is quicker would never go back to IDE if i don't have too..

The bottom line is filled with LULZ.

My slave PC (the one that acts as my house's file server and torrent box) is IDE only... and it boots up in about 20 seconds, while my main PC is SATA and takes a good minute to boot up all the way.

It all depends on the drive.

PM me what you have for under $800. I think the motherboard on my lappy might be going out and I'm sick of shitty Dell parts. I've had so many mobo replacements it's not even funny. Each time they use crappy refurbished parts that crap out 6 months later.

just bought a new laptop, couldnt be happier. Its a gateway, but it is very well built. I have access to all the major components, so fixing it myself is easy. I even have 2 hard drive bays. =) came with a 1920 X 1200 res screen, Core 2 Duo, GeForce 9800, draft N Wifi, on Centrino 2 platform.
