remove Cd from an old un-installed head unit

Probely your best bet is to pick up a wiring harness ment for your Impreza, plug it in to your stock harness and note where the power and ground wires are on the stock harness. That will tell you where they are on the back of the Clarion.

You can do it underneath the hood right at the battery. Take some spare speaker wire wrap the constant 12v wire and ignition wire together (usually red and yellow) and hook them to the positive lead, do the same thing for the ground and your done.
I tend to use one of my rear floor mats to rest the radio on so that it does not ground out.

those are really valuable suggestion.

My problem, though, is where to apply power on the head unit now how to provide it. I need to figure out the pinout of the unit cause it doesn't have any wire attached but just a socket (with pins). Wires remained in the car and are now connected to the new unit.

Would this be of any help ?

I got you, heres what i got. I downloaded a list of factory wire color codes a while ago and heres what I got for your Subaru.

12v Ignition Blue/Yellow

12v Constant Red/Green

Of course you know Ground is Black, but see if those colors match on the factory harness.

If all else fails, pop out the new HU, plug in the old one for a sec and eject the CD
