Remote start, 2008 Camry

I wanted to get my wife a remote starter for Christmas of last year. We live in Minnesota and a warm car in the morning can be a real treat in winter.

Anyway I cruise to the local stereo install shops and they want like $350 bucks and can't get to it till like a month after Christmas (this was like mid-November). No good.

How hard can it be I thought as I ordered a cheap unit off amazon? All I really care about it the ability to start the car without going outside. I do not need or care about any other feature.

Hard as hell apparently.

After hours of research everywhere I can think of, I tear the car apart with some garbage instructions it came with an equally garbage wiring diagram from a Toyota forum.

Needless to say it didn't work. I took it all out and put the car back together and everything still works thank goodness.

I would like to try and get it installed but fear it'll never work without some better guidance.

Anybody wiling to share some wisdom? I can/will gladly share any specifics you need if someone if willing to help.

The lack of decent available information seems as though the installers are pretty tight lipped about sharing.

Thanks in advance !

Honestly. Definitely something you want a professional to do. Newer cars have such sensitive computer controlled modules. I wouldnt want to Eff with any of that.

Since its not security and its a remote start. A mechanic shop may be able to do. Ask around.

I have done two successful DIY remote starts on Hondas. There are some good forums out there to help. Let's start with the basics.

Which exact model/make starter did you buy?

Which exact model 2008 Camry? (2-door, 4-door, LE, etc)

toyota is one of the easier cars to do alarms on. chances are you didnt get a transponder bypass module, I didnt want to spend another $100.00 to add the one that wont take a key i just went with a dei 556u $12.00 and was done with it.
