Relocation of Factory HU

I am about to install a complete system into a 2002 Buick Regal and I am trying to find out whether I can just remove the factory head unit or if I will have to relocate it. What stuff is integrated into it? Where can I find out this crap? Buick's website was no help, nor was the owner's manual. I can live without the stupid chime, but there may be something more important.

Ok, so I went and talked to the friendly people at Columbus Car Audio and they tell me that I don't need to relocate the factory head unit. I also don't need any crazy custom-built adapter kit. They did, however, say that this particular car would be a bit of a pain in the butt and that the install would probably take all day and cost around $500. Does this sound reasonable or are they blowing smoke? They tell me the back seat has to come out in order to mount the rear speakers, and because the factory speakers are all powered off the head unit all new speaker wires would have to be run. Sounds believable, but I don't really want to spend $500 on it.

Any input? Would it be unwise to attempt this myself?

is a buick regal one of those big old people sedans? if so, i've done a lot of installs on buicks and cadillacs of those type, and they're not that much harder than any other car. i've found that more often than not, you have to drill a hole through the fire wall, and a lot of the time the rear seats dont fold down and thats a pain. but everything else is cake. real easy panels to remove.
