MOOOOHAHAHAHAAAA!Christ comes fromt the greek Christos which just means "annointed one".. It's not a name. Anybody can be anointed.
Yeah, that's true. What you didn't mention was that that actually has very significant meaning. To make it short, when the Jews would elect a new king, they would annoint his head with oils. Basically, it relates to Jesus being King of the Jews.

Hope I didn't offend anybody.. Shalom //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ephesians 2:8-9

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast."

The defining difference between Christianity and the other religions is the belief that man cannot save himself. The only way man can be saved is by God's grace. Through faith in Christ, and repentance, man is saved by God grace. John 14:6 is another good verse, it shows that Jesus is the only way to God.

Romans 10:9-10

"That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."

Anyone who believes in their heart that Christ is Lord, puts their faith and trust in the Lord, and confess it with their lips shall be saved.

However, another interesting verse is James 2:19

"You believe in one God? Good! Even the demons in hell believe this- and shudder.

There is a difference between a belief in God in your mind and a believe in God in your heart. There is an illustration called "16 inches". 16 inches is the average distance from your head to your heart. It is considered the distance of eternity, those that only believe in God in their mind, will be like the demons in hell, but those that believe in their heart have true belief. When one truly believes in God (in their heart) and has true faith in Jesus Christ, he shall be saved by the grace of God. Grace is what covers our sin, that is why Jesus died on the cross, he died for our sins; those that believe in Him and live by His word, shall be saved by God's grace, which covers all of our sin.

I guess in short summary, being saved is being crucified in Christ, you no longer live but Christ lives in you (the Holy Spirit).

No offense, dude, but I know non-Christians(yeah, I said Christian) really hate it when they ask you about your faith and all you do is spout off some random passage from the Bible. This is where the myth that Christians cannot think for themselves comes from.

Well since I can't think for myself, I guess I will let the Holy Spirit do it for me then

Also, my answer was adressing the question of "What do you think it means to be saved?" So, I answered the question based on what I believe, which is the Bible, the infallible Word of God.

Don't get me wrong. I wasn't trying to disrespect you or anything, just saying that some people may see it that way. If that's what you truly believe, then more power to you.

I actually got "saved" last semester, its pretty awesome

I can tollerate you guys non believing but why must you bash the rest of us for having faith in Jesus Christ? You all act like we are a bunch of stupid retards that dont know what we are talking about. Have any of you ever noticed how many of us retards there are? Its something around %70-%80 of the United States population I believe that claim to be Christian. That seems pretty d@mn retarded for the most powerful country in the world huh.

Bro, I consider myself a Christian, and I guess you do too, but don't you think you are being soft of hypocritical when you say you have faith in Jesus Christ and stuff and then you go off cussing on the forum? The Bible does teach that it is a sin to cuss...I am jw bro...

You all act
Nice word choice.

I really don't care what you (collective you) believe in - I won't think any less of someone for believing strongly in organized religion. Nor will I make posts trying to question your faith - it's what you think, that's cool with me. As long as you don't disrupt my life or make violence onto others, it really doesn't matter...

It is true that close to 80% of the US consider themselves or claim to be Christians, however, only 6% say that they go to church and pray regularly. And I know not everyone that goes to church is truly a Christian, so I would say that maybe even less than 6% of our nation are truly Christians in my view. And going to a Christian church, and praying is not what makes you a Christian. Knowing God personally is what makes you a Christian, it is all about God's grace, not the works of man.

that verse right there...its saying if you belive in your heart and confess with your mouth and all that...does that mean that you NEED that "prayer of salvation"??

and phoneman...

well...the bible is what we base our beliefs in ya know, so if you ask us a question about our beliefes, spiritualism, or any of all that good stuff, we get that from the bible.

now if you get into apologetics, defending the faith, thats were we have to get intellectual on your butt!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Call it what you want but do my sins make me any less of a believer then you? Did I ever once say or act better then anyone? I am human just as everyone else and yes I have weaknesses and I sin and I cuss and so on. I have never said one time that what I did was right but yet you call me a hypocrit for sinning and believing in Christ at the same time. I am not preaching to anyone but only trying to defend my beliefs so I dont see how you can call me the hipocrit.
