Reconed RE XXX has metal blocking some of the mounting holes? huh?

How am I supposed to drill through the metal basket? You guys realize that the holes are supposed to go right through the metal basket? It's not just foam surround the entire way down

Yeah, you should be able to drill right through it.
through the metal? I have a standard drill bit and it's not drilling through it, so what do I need to have to do this? Also why do I even have to do this, I don't think most people have power drills that can go through metal just laying around?

Any drill can drill through metal and most $10 sets of drill bits are perfectly capable of going through metal.

problem solved, I guess I can yell at my father for not teaching me about this type of stuff when I was younger. That's what happens when your parents never educate you on being a handy man or using power tools.

take the rubber gasket off and push the screws through the holes in teh basket you can see them from the back
I took care of it already, but that definately wouldn't have cut it, it needed some serious drilling to penetrate the metal.

did you change the size of the sub?
wvwn if, i doubt they have baskets that dont have the holes driled out.....sounds like the gasket shifted
nope same size. Oddly enough there were holes drilled for each of the holes in the rubber gasket, but 3 of the holes were not drilled out in the center? I had to completely drill through metal in the center to get it to poke through the other side, even though the other side already had a hole on it? Wierd, but at least it is good to go now.

I was not aware that you could get a sub reconed to a different size? How much do you think they would charge to recone a 12 to an 18? Maybe if this thing ever blows again I might do that

I'm cringing at the retardness of this thread now after actually looking at the sub and realizing it was just the metal basket not drilled all the way through. Can a mod delete this please? I appreciate you people not ripping on me A LOT more than you could have though.

Um..dude there's already holes in the basket.

Take the gasket off

Flip it over

The edge of the surround is designed so you poke holes through the holes that are in the frame...

1/4" drill bit and 2 seconds for each hole...and your done.

I hope you did not drill 8 more holes through your basket..because if you did odds are it is going to crack. You should not be drilling on any metal.

mainly the cost of a recone kit + the cost of a basket.
