recone on RE SX 15" ?

im not an SPL guy, so i really dont know anything about reconeing subs. but heres the deal. i built a setup for my boy consisting of an RE SX 15" (d2) and a DD M2 powering it. well he just showed up this morning and said that "he had smoke coming from the box, and now it sounds funny". obviously smoked a coil. i was afraid that the M2 would be too much power, and warned him, and set the gain very conservatively. but i guess it was inevitable. he likes it loud. so what are my options? recone? just get another RE SX off ebay but try and get a d4 model so the amp doesnt make so much power? or find another sub that will work in the same enclosure as the RE SX but handle more power? what to do?

you can get the sub re coned for way cheaper than getting a new sub. Not sure on the output on that amp though
1700 @ 1ohm. stock 105amp alt, and stock size batt, but big3 and power run are all 1/0. the amp is the only current draw. door speakers are off deck power. im going out to check it out now and confirm damages.

just send back to RE for recone? since its sunday ill have to call them tomorrow.

I know someone who can do it for cheaper. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
cool, ill send you a PM.

i just pulled the sub and sure enough, nice and scratchy when moved, nice and crispy when viewed, and nice and smelly when sniffed. looks like that M2 is quite the little monster.

Fi sells recones for them. Ive got FI recones on my SX's right now. But if fixmyspeaker can do it for 50 bucks, id head that direction.

One thing about the fixmyspeaker.com website that bothers me though is that they have no phone number or address listed.

Really?

I still have to get the phone for the shop activated. Im not planning to add my cell # to an internet website. Sorry bro. Im sure most of these people here already know who I am anyway, lots have my # anyhow. You know this already though right? Where's the phone # on Fi's website? That's who you're recommending here isn't it? They haven't had a # listed for the years that they have been in business. Give me a few days fella. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The address to my shop will be given to any customer who sends in speakers for service (as does any previous customer) or to anyone who specifically requests it. Its a commercial building/address, but let's say that I was someone who was working out of my garage... that's legal isnt it? Why would anyone feel the need to post their home address on a website? I WAS working out of a garage for a while though... that's why Ive never really advertised anywhere. Hell, go look to see how long fixmyspeaker.cokm has been up... years. I just didnt want my home address on the net, or to have to go pick stuff up at a shipping facility. Eff that....

Whats up though? Maybe Im wrong bro, but it just seems like you're picking another fight with me. If not, it's all good, my mistake. I just thought that a guy like yourself would already know, or at least just know better.

Im 100% with my business practices, everyone knows it.

If you have any other questions or concern, you can post them on my forum FixMySpeaker.com Forum

Everyone who has personally dealt with me for service will surely vouch for me anyway. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yes, I feel it's important that a business of any sort has a point of contact by at least an answering machine. If I am thinking of dealing with a company and on their weibsite it doesnt list a number, I most likely wont deal with them. I also don't agree with FI not having a phone number of some sort. Not talking to your customers like a real human is a mistake IMO in this age of "i'll get back to you when I get back to you" electronic correspondance.

Ok, so you don't have it at your house anymore. Great, glad to see you've moved up to something bigger and better. Again, if I go to a site that i'm interested in doing business with and they don't post where on the planet they're actually located - I question why they wouldn't post that. Maybe i'd like to find out what zip code it's in and try to figure out the cost of shipping a driver to you without having to bother you and take up your time? I do that alot with some companies I deal with. I just don't find it unreasonable to know where i'm going to be sending my equipment.

I'm not picking a fight. Forget who I am for a moment - pretend im this average joe who visits your website and dosent troll ca.com constantly. I look at your webpage, and think - sure lets talk to these people and see what they can do for me.... then when I look at your contacts link I find absolutlely no way to get ahold of you nor where you are located on this big planet. I'd be wary of dealing with you and move on.

It has nothing to do with you personally David, it's just the perception you give to unknowing potential customers. I had hoped that you would take what I said as friendly advice, but I guess you didn't take it that way. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Agreed with above, its nice to know where a business is physically located. Most business pages I surf that don't list address/phone info I usually skip over (unless I'm already familiar with the business).

Not having a phone# available for customers is retarded, I won't get into that though
