recommended amp for my subs

hey guys im a newbie when it comes to subs and amps so i gotta ask. I am lookin at buying 2 alpine 12" type r subs and dont know whether to go with the SWR-1241d or the 1221d. They both have the exact same specs but one is (2ohm+2ohm) and the other is (4ohm+4ohm). What exactly is the difference and which is better?

They are both basically the same. The difference is the wiring configurations. You said that you wanted to go with 2 12's so if you get the 1221d you will be able to get a final impediance of 2 ohms, or 0.5 ohms.

With the 1241d's you will have the options of 4 ohms or 1 ohm.

If your amp is stable at 1 ohm, or 4 ohms then you will want the 1241's, if it is stable to 0.5 ohms, or 2 ohms then you will want the 1221's

With 2 (2 ohm + 2 ohm) you can wire at either 2 ohm or 8 ohm on a mono amp. With 2 (4 ohm + 4 ohm) you can wire at 1 ohm or 4 ohm on a mono amp. You could also go with a 2 channel amp. It really depends on what you want to do.

Ya with 2 of the 1221d's you can get 8 ohms as well, but i have yet to see a car amp that makes its power at 8 ohms, not to say that there aren't any, or even lots, but I have never seen one. You can also get 0.5 ohms with the 1221d's as I said earlier

ight thanx guys, that site helps alot noodles.... i think im gonna go with the 1241d and run themwith the rockford fosgate power bd1000 which will give me 1000 watts at 2ohm.... Am i right on this?

Are you just getting one of them? If you are getting one 1241 then yes that is enought/ way too much power.

if you are getting 2, then you can't run 2 1241's at 2 ohms, so i'd get 2 of the 1221's
