Recommend a Two Way Component

Hello. I recently upgraded my car audio system. I installed a Powerbass ASA 600.4 to power a Cerwin Vega 10" Vega subwoofer and an Infinity Reference 6030CS component speakers. I also replaced my head unit with an Alpine 9886 with the Imprint Module PXA H100. I noticed the highs on the Infinty Reference too bright/harsh. When I try to reduce it on the Imprint module equalizer, the mid/voice is reduced as well. Overall, I am not quite satisfied with the sound. I am also finding it hard to adjust the sound imaging. I can't seem to get the correct staging. I am having a hard time aligning it to the center with the Time Alignment function of the Imprint module.

I was looking at Focal 165 V30 Polyglass and a Crescendo Opus 5 or Opus 8.6. Would you guys recommend this for SQ setup? I listen to mostly jazz/vocals, acoustic and instrumental music.

i think the Focal Polyglass is just as bright as the Reference, but still a better speaker.

getting the proper sound stage requires that speakers be in proper locations. you can't use factory locations, buy a processor, and expect a properly balanced sound stage. mids in doors are awful for a good sound stage, IMO.

it sounds like you're mostly having issues using Imprint. Did you use the tuning kit to let it work it's own magic? What EQ adjustments are you making?

I forgot to mention, I drive a Japanese made Mistubishi Pajero SUV (Monetero in the USA) and had a tweeter pillar mount made but mids are still in the stock door panel position.

Right now, I am on a flat setting except for the high band which is on -5 and still bright. I have been trying to have it tuned using the kit but unfortunately, most shops run out of it. I even wanted to buy it but was advice against doing so since it will be used once only. I heard there are shops offering tuning services using the kit for a fee. I still need to find that shop. You see, I am from the Philippines and our resources are quite limited here.

Looks very interesting...but looks expensive too. I doubt it if it's even available here in the Philippines. Again, I will have to check. Very interesting read on the manual you linked. Any more speaker suggestions other than Clarus?

I mentioned in my first post that I was looking at Focal 165 V30 Polyglass and a Crescendo Opus 5 or Opus 8.6. They are in the $450-500 value. I might just spend no more than that amount. I just learned that Clarus is in the same level as far as the price is concerned. Buy the Imprint tuning kit and rent it out to people to make your money back. Or buy it then sell it. But i think having the kit will be helpful, whenever you make a gear change, you'll want to run the kit again.

My tweeters are aimed off axis (rear view mirror). The tweeter pod can be adjusted and we've tried all possible angles. No dice..and yes, it is bright from all seats.

I'll check if I can audition one. I am actually leaning towards Clarus.

I was able to find a local HAT dealer but the Clarus is way over priced at $602. They also have the Legatias which I didn't even bother asking how much. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I might just call Scott soon and ask if he can accommodate shipping here in the Philippines without charging me an arm and a leg. If not, I'd look at other options like Crescendo Opus 8.6 or the Focal 156V30.
