The parking lot police officer (he's actually a city cop, not a rent-a-cop) at school today told me to get a rear view mirror on (subs took it off 2 times now) within two days or he's writing me a ticket for it.
But, I've talked to officer's before, and they said that as long as I have both left and right side mirrors that I'm fine. I did some googleing, but it just leads to more confusion...

I've been without a mirror now since november, and not having one doesn't impare my driving (I always used the side mirrors more anyway). Anyone have any insight on whats legal?

says that I need a mirror to see to the back of the vehicle, but I'm not sure if they'd consider the side mirrors for only the side, and that there must be a separate mirror for rear viewing...MOTOR VEHICLE EQUIPMENT STANDARDS FOR REAR VIEW MIRROR.Every motor vehicle shall be equipped with a mirror so located as to reflect to the operator a view of
the highway to the rear of such vehicle. The operator shall have a clear unobstructed view to the rear
and both sides of the vehicle by mirror
