Rear speakers unnecessary

This is why driver placement/tuning is so critical - the idea is that unless something is at the extreme of the soundstage, it shouldn't be there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif It's hard to describe unless you've experienced it...
You are right I would love to hear a competition-quality SQ setup, I never had the pleasure.

I remember the first time I discovered the "sweet spot", they had some home theater speakers set up at Best Buy and I remember walking by them and kind-of losing my orientation, and when I stepped back and positioned myself right between them the speakers seemed to "disappear"... that's a really cool feeling //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm pretty sure that would make the house lights dime //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

oh' yea I knew that about the NIN album. That is a terrible example for what is actually being applied. You may have caught me using a deceiving best buy tactic to sway someone into buying something they don't need. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Although, in all seriousness; I have decided that having a four speaker setup (IMO) is a necessity.

Here's a little old stuff I've got lying around:

Believe it or not, those old crappy looking kickers sounds NICE in the Heresy II boxes, cone cover dents and all:

Another good reason against rear fill is that it detracts funds from your front stage.

Putting $100 - $150 to get better components or amplifiers for your front stage will have a much bigger effect on your overall sound than simply adding a pair of crappy head-unit powered speakers behind you.

I guess turning off rear fill at first can make it it sound "empty," but let your ears adjust and you'll find that it actually sounds better that way. The idea is to turn your dashboard into a concert venue.

Lot's of interesting buttons and knobs to play with on that model //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i think rear fill is debated so much bc too often it's not setup correctly. at a concert /opera the sound doesn't just travel to your ears and stop it will typically bounce off a wall, someones face, etc not to mention your ears are on the sides of your head not the front ... so you hear sound coming from all around u . i can't live without rear fill but i have 1/10th the power of my fronts on them, i still turn them down -4 dbs, and i time correct them for 9.9ms(still playing around with this) . but makes my sound so much more natural and fills the car with sound.

x2

It may not seem to be an improvement at first because its different than what youre used to. Now that I've grown accustom to a more ideal sound stage, I'll never go back to rear fill.

I've always ran rear fill. I have only owned sedan cars so it has always worked in my situations.

If the rear fill is properly level gained and TA, you can't even tell you are running rears. In my last install it help with some additional mid bass.

I am not sure why so many people always say, just skip it, no need. I understand if you are going to compete in SQ, but do you really think people running RSDs(or equivalent) are going to SQ events.
