Rear speakers/sub/amp configuration, need help!

Gday,

I've just got myself a new 4*200 watt amp, 12" 800watt sub and 2 300watt 6*9" speakers with the idea that i'd bridge the sub across two channels and run the rear speakers from the other two channels.

The problem i have is that the head unit only has two RCA line outputs(one left and one right). The head unit can also be set so these outputs put out either normal line out, lower than 90HZ, lower than 135HZ or lower than 180HZ.

I was wondering what is the best way to set this up? I've taken some pictures for you guys to check out!

Your help and opinions would be hugely appreciated!

Oh, by the way, the plug on the very far left is an ipod input!

You can set one one set of preouts to allow under 90hz, and use that one as your sub out. Then, use the other set on full range, and cross the speakers at 90-100hz at the HU. That should work.

My problem is that i dont have two sets of preouts on the head unit. There is only 2 plugs, rather than 4. I.e. 1 left, 1 right.

The amp has one plug for each of the four channels.

I probably didnt make that very clear in my first post!

Would i connect the left(from the headunit) to say channel 1 on the amp, and the right(fron the head unit) to channel 2 on the amp, and then bridge these channels from the amp to the sub?

Sorry, Jules. I didn't get that from your post. I really don't have an answer for you. But, be patient. I am sure someone on here will be able to help.

I think for anyone else, having a look at the pictures might really help because i think there is a spot on the amp that maybe i can also attach the rear speaker wire from the head unit to on the amp and them go from the amp(say channel 3 and 4) to the rear speakers... I'm not sure tho

complete newbie here when it comes to Car audio!

That will give you the (4) inputs your amp needs. Set the Headunit output to normal, and use the amps built in crossover to set the front and rear like you would like them.

It does not have to be thoses spliters, any good ones will work fine.

I thought about bringing up RCA y-splitters, but i didn't know how well they worked trying to split the channel like that in a car.

But yeah, those should work just fine. then you can set chan. 1-2 for sub, using LPF, and chan 3-4 for speakers, using HPF.

For what he is tryin to do, I think it will work fine. Ive done it before and used the amps seperate crossovers and gains to control the output from each set of speakers.

Thanks for that, it looks like a nice easy solution!

Probably be best to have one female split to two males tho and have the splitter plugged into the amp wouldn't it? I'm just thinking it be a bit neater and pick up less engine noise...
