rear fill... need advice

ok im considering adding a couple rear speakers - i know rear fill is frowned upon on these boards but because of my less than ideal stock locations.. it is becoming a series consideration...

my options are either the rear shelf or the rear doors.. i was considering adding a set of deep playing mids. (well as deep as i can play in a door) say for example at best: 60-400hz... i figure putting them in the rear shelf will be kinda pointlesss and wont really add much because of the subs and phasing/timing... if i cross them at around 220-400hz and put em in the door (hopefully try to fit an 8 in there) .. it shouldnt really affect the different tone speakers tend to have.. but im not sure "how much" this will add.. and if i will have desireable results.. i dont wanna pull the stage to the back.. but i feel like my setup (which sounds good) is in a way lacking presence, depth, and maybe help the subs blenda little better..

but before i spend the money and cut up my doors - if anyone has ever expertimented orhas a similar setup- i would appreciate hearing your results... and if crossing them around 220-400 seems to high or low..? or if this just seems like a bad idea in general lol

I also have considered a set of midbass in the rear doors, but have yet to ask any questions about if it would work like i want or not....it is my understanding that bass frequencies are non-directional, therefor not mattering where the speaker is, but i do not know what the cutoff is for this scenario, and if there would be any benefit to front seat listening if the midbass was low on the rear door

same thing here.. the speaker in the my rear door couldnt be lower or more foward.. its litterally right behind me..

you're right when you say sub bass freq's are non direcitonal but thats only true from 80 and lower (sub bass) .. 80+ are where it starts getting directional (midbass) ... but theres almost no point in putting a speaker in the rear doors playing only say 60-80.. (you're not going down to 20 or even close without *major* door modications) because since they arent directional - the sub can do that.

but i figure with the rear door placement crossed at 220-400ish.. it might pull the stage a little back but not that much because that range barely starts to enter the vocal range.. while stilll adding depth and fullness.. and i doubt my front speakers are playing flat in the 200 sub range anyway.. so it seems like it would benefit the setup more than hurt it..

i pulled the 220 number from the rainbow powerline set - since thats what they cross em at lol

my thoughts are in the same place, as long as the crossover is in the correct range, then it will not drastically effect the stage

For bump-n-thump when stuck with factory locations like the rear deck, I found the Pioneer 6x9 REV series speakers deliver a pseudo-sub sound. While that was going on, the front speakers were carrying almost all of the rest of the music from my driver's seat perspective. Those Kevlar cones can handle the chore. The result was about the same as having a sub in the back.

I've read posts here that talk about leaving the rear deck speaker openings vacant so a sub in the trunk (assuming you have a standard coupe/sedan type of car) can get it's output inside. The Cadillac I have is loaded with sound-deadening insulation between the trunk and the interior and the seats are pretty good at sound absorbing in their own right, so if you faced this kind of challenge and you want a real subwoofer to do the job, then leave the holes open.

One time here I saw on the sales thread a guy who had a pair of 6x9's that were definitely oriented toward bass response. They were a dark brown in color. Perhaps someone who reads this thread will know the brand. I have not seen their like since but that approach also struck me as a good idea for getting the bass going.

I had a Dodge Dakota Club Cab with 6 1/2" components in front and rear....it sounded great....the way they were positioned worked perfectly.

Now my wifes car with rear speakers sounds like sh!t I personally cant stand it.

(shhh dont tell her!!!)
