I would pass on the Diamonds. If you do the Rainbows move up to the SLC's, I would do the helix over the cdt just my thoughts but my loyalty lie with rainbow

there dont look like theres much difference ?

i can pay the extra £50 difference. just when i looked, theres not much noticable difference & they look the exact same.

No offense but this type of "advice" just sucks. Do you think that the OP's goal is anything other than buying speakers that will sound the best to him? Ideally we would all be able to "test drive" any components that we are considering in a proper install. But for most people that is impractical if not impossible.

If the only choice I had was between researching on this forum and listening to crappy board installs of whatever speakers nearby shops happened to have available, I would choose researching here every time. Of course it is best if you can research and audition, but you can get a pretty good idea of which components will suit your listening preference by reading others opinions.

To the OP, I have found that I can gain the most information by doing a search on the particular models I am considering. Please don't take that the wrong way -- it's just that way you get a wider variety of views.

there are many online periodic favorites all the time which is what Italyn is trying to get at which is quite true. Rainbow is the current CA boner which while the price is good and the performance is good it doesn't fit everyone's taste like mine. I've listened to a few sets of the SLC and up to their higher midrange sets and they do sound quite nice BUT they don't fit my musical tastes. The mids are very warm, dry, and airy to me and don't have the strong mids that I like. My installer who was installing them in a customers car also commented on the same thing. For some of the price point the Rainbows are selling for now, they are a good buy, i think the SLC were under 200 or about that price range. CDT's in that range are the EFs which have a better midrange and tweeter IMO but lack the midbass response of others. I would say go for the HD's which can get incredibly loud and have a very good frequency response. But they also cost more. All in all it does come to personal taste.....I'd say do research and honestly i would try and buy a couple different sets for reference, that would be a fun month or so when you get to test them out.

Well about a 1 1/2 years ago I bought a pair of CDT EF's from Djdilliodon who I learned of off of this site. I read a lot of opinions (both good and bad) before I made my decision. I realized even then that there was a lot of CDT bandwagoning going on, but I felt as though I had a pretty good idea that the components would suit my tastes. I would say that the components were pretty much what I expected -- not the greatest but pretty darn good for the money. I really don't know how you could expect too much more for the money I spent. And the transaction was perfect.

But I see your point. For my next vehicle (which I have been looking for the last couple of months) I have debating whether to go back with CDT(this time the HD's), the OZ Audio Matrix Elites, or a set of Rainbows (either SLC's or Germaniums).

The problem is that there is nowhere to audition any of those components. I would be going strictly by what I have read here. Based on my good experience before, I was comfortable doing just that. Now I am not so sure. I certainly don't want to get caught up in the bandwagon effect.

There is a local place that sells Alpine (the type X's have been a distant runner up). Perhaps the most prudent thing would be to go listen to those and get those if I like them.

Sorry if I gave bad advice before. Unfortunately, I don't think it's the first time I have advised someone that they could buy components online without actually hearing them first IF they did their research. Live and learn I guess.

thats good advice, but where i live in the uk theres no where that has these that have them playing, im in realy looking for advice.

i listen to ukgarage, jungle, dnb, rnb, hiphop. etc etc, also with some punk in there aswell, yeh i know, strainge aint it. haha

i have inphase at the moment & there totaly rubbish, so im thinking anything is going to be better, due to be not wanting to make the same misstake again & buying rubbish componants.

im planning on running 2X 12" PIONEER-TS-W3004SPL in the rear & wanting to make sure i have plenty of midrange at the front & coax in the rear for rear sound fill.....

Man, England? Have you looked at Genesis? They're from your neck of the woods and are very, very, very good. I wish they were more commonly available in the states. I should think that it wouldn't be hard to find a Genesis dealer in the U.K.

I think caraudiodirect.co.uk (the British equivalent of SoundDomain) sells them, as well as a lot of other great brands.

Having said that, I'd probably take a good look at the Helix set. Rainbows are good, as well, and I'd say you really can't go wrong with either. The Alpine Type-X is a very good speaker for the money and well worth a listen.

I'd put CDT below the rest. Good for the money, perhaps, but I think you can do better.
