Real Point of Capasitors?

sigh i didn't read it but unlike many people on here t hink, capacitors aren't only in car audio and most certaintly are NOT in farad units. uf or micro farad is one of the more popular in other reams of audio.

read up buddy
1) Thanks for pointing out something that has already been mentioned twice in this thread.

2) Judging by the conversation up to this point and the question posed in the first post, don't you think it would be more logical if this discussion was centered more around the stiffening capacitors used in line with amps rather than every single use a capacitor has in electronics //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/idea.gif.5acb6a39a9b92425414c316dda202bad.gif When someone asks about an amp, you don't start going into all the different uses an amplifier (not just audio, but signal amplifiers in general) have, do you? No, because it doesn't pertain to the topic at hand.

Nice attempt at making yourself look ubersmart, however //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

True, but eventually someone will want to know their alternative uses. Example, I hooked up a small 2 channel amp inline with the antenna going to my TV. I thought it boost reception. Instead the screen posterized, went grayscale, and had this insanely high gamma. The sound reception was never better. =)

Here's what I've read that I believe.

[thread]

Caps are a vital part of electronics. They are not a vital part of a 12vDC charging system when used externally against a piece of electronics that already has it's own built in capacitance.

cap lovers forget resistance decay and a few other items...they can help yes, to the degree most claim no unless there amp was made in the 70's lol with a rather poor internal cap bank in it. imo i think you would be better off with a batt cap or a smallish battery in back with the amps. i see alot of miss information about people needing 200 + amp alts too lol its sorta funny unless people plan on running test tones like most listen to music. in most applications a healthy alt of about 150 amps (100 at idle) the big 3 and a second battery is all thats needed unless you plan on running 2500 watts real rms on class a/b amps or 3000 + on class d's even then i doubt it will kill the electrical that bad

i hear ya but it's so cool to have an HO alt though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif i used to run my crossfire vr2000D on a 90 amp alt. with slight voltage/dimming problems. there was also not stiffening cap used.

you still have electrical problems buddy. 11 volts is not good. on a side note i give up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
Lol 11.9 volts i think is pretty good when you have 4 subs pounding at full, when the current is 250amps

but i'm just speaking from experience, trying to help, not trying to argue or get flamed

peace:veryhapp:

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Someone doesn't understand the metric system ... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
1 microfarad = 0.000001 farads

4500 microfarads = 0.0045 farads

Capacitors are rated in FARADS ...

You wouldn't go around saying, "Most big amplifiers certainly are not in watts. kW or kilowatt is one of the more popular ways to rate high-power amplifiers."

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif x 1,000,000 ... aka Mega:rolleyes:
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif and you called me dense? you knew exactly what i meant by that. in car audioyou have like 1+ farad (WHOLE number) whereas in crossovers and such, you have uf/microfarads (NOT a whole number).

1. i said i didn't read the thread //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

2. what does a bttery on a radio do? how about in a calculator? same thing, different uses. i figure that knowing what a car cap does won't teach u anything unless u know what they are used for in the first place //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

dude 11.9 is not good. whatever //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif i give up.

Right, you never implied that microfarads were unrelated to farads or anything //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif you still knew exactly what i meant. a farad unit and a picofarad unit are much different

So about "Capacitors", i just got two Phoenix Digital 1.2F Caps online for a real good price. They can be a rip off; however, i believe if the price is right, a cap can be a solid investment because it does have the potential to protect your amp from Voltage flux and continuous output.

may i ask how much you paid for them?
