Real Point of Capasitors?

I know they store power so your amp has it on tap when it needs it, and it keeps your head lights from dimming.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif But is that all there really is to it?

What are the positive things that make having a cap so great?

I dont know much about them but i am buying one because it was suggested to me and i just want to know why I would need one?

Thanks Guys

Chris

you pretty much just answered your own question. they help in the things that you said.. and that is their purpose
yep, some poeple beliave it improves bass responce and make your sub louder. i have yet to hear a system get louder with a cap i think there garbage and a waist of money. when u could 10-20 bux in 0/1 awt wire and do the big three

The big 3 is three length of low guage wire run between the alternator, chassis, and battery to reduce resistance of power flow between the three. It generally costs between $20 and $30 depending on if you use fuses and what guage of wire you run. Unlike caps, the big 3 is a proven method of reducing light dimmage and voltage drops.

Caps have their fare share of problems for what they are supposed to do, and they are unhealthily expensive.

I always thought that they helped the battery out by storing power in them to help voltage drops, not successfully eliminate them.

Myself I don't get voltage drops, only at idle though. Thats how my car has always been though.

I don't really see the point unless your running a high-powered system. (1000+rms) Or a smaller alt.

how does storing/taking power from the battery help it, when it can barely keep itself charged.

Um...capacitors are an integral circuit component? Maybe? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Never looked at a schematic, I take it...
