Between the two with current line up JL. Depending on the music you listen to and the sound you like there may be better options out there. Personally I love w7 but then again not a whole lot of sq subs out there that will put out as much spl as a w7.

For that type of sound say a w3, eclipse is a very comparable brand that is better in sq than current re to my ears. Titanic and shiva will blow w3 out of the water for sq.

JL (I don't care how expensive it is) wins IMO, but I've owned way more RE and love their subs too

JL vs. RE? I've never seen a JL sub handle 2000 watts RMS on a daily basis whereas Steve Meade used to run that kind of power to each of his RE / FI Audio 18s back in the day. Rarely anyone uses JL subs for pure SPL. SQ-wise I've never been let down by JL Audio, but their stuff is expensive for what they are and I've heard subs that sounded better than a W7 such as the Image Dynamics IDMAX, Crystal CMPX2 or the older Eclipse Titaniums. They all costs less than a W7.

People hate on JL Audio because it's overpriced, overhyped and they're everywhere, but they do perform well. I would personally reject both brands and go buy a set of Cerwin Vega V-Max or Stroker for something different.
