Re Se or Soundstream T4 or aq?

the olds se's sound pretty good, but there were kinda quiet, T4's > ***'s, they can handle more power, plus they r cheaper.

but cheaper is exactly what it is. i always looked at as u get what u pay for. sure they might get louder then the ses, but are they gonna be clearer, or just be distored like a 140 dollar sub would.

i was looking at t4s, but once i looked around, i dont think im to into them

At the same time, remember that a BIG reason they're so much cheaper is that it's been discontinued. As a rule in the electronic world, when the new model comes out the old one drops in price a good 30% if not more. So it's not like the T4 is cheaply made or a shoddy product. There's just a new one now. The T5's might be $230 now but they'll be like $150 as soon as the T6 happens.

My big reservation is that I just can't squeeze a friggin' 4.25cu box in my hatch. That would be just stupid. I mean I could, but it'd be the entire hatch. The T5 at least just needs 2.75cu.

I'm going to agree with southpole. Quality is better than quantity. The Soundstream subs are loud, but they don't sound all that good.

But that's personal preference. Some people like SPL, others like SQ...

I think "good" is also sorta subjective. When I was listening to an Opeth CD, the pair of CVR10's the guy had kept up with the music just fine in their sealed box. I often worry that certain subs get a reputation for being "SPL" or "SQ" and then that's just how they're seen no matter what they sound like in reality.

Also, scratch the crap about the T4 needing 4.25cu. According to the MANUAL that I found online, the 4.25 is gross size, it needs 4.0 for "high output" and that's not counting sub displacement, additionally Soundstream says 3.5 is the "sound quality" size. So anywhere between 3.5 and 4.0 without even taking the sub displacement into account is apparently just fine. I think I'm sold.

yeah they're cheaper doesnt mean they are sucky, the t4's have been out for at least 3 yrs. When they first came out there were $325+ subs, when a newer version comes out the old one drops in price. Some stores actually have the t4's costing more than t5's. Im just real skeptical about the newest soundstream products that are coming out. I know they are owned by PA but to make the subwoofers look that exact same. U know when a company is becoming mainstream when they start to put covers on the magnets.

yes they drop in price when a new model comes out, but then somebody explain this to me.

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=16056

both are apparently t4s, different prices, different style.
Techtronic's pic is wrong. I've never seen that before and admittedly I'm going off all YouTube videos and other things, but the T4 has a blue spider on it, not a weird shiny thing.

Also OnlineCarStereo has free shipping.

ya theyve been around, all im saying is they may get louder, but the clarity comes into play as well.

not saying totally saying because they are cheap means they ****, im just personally looking for louder than my jls, but just as clear and able to hit the highs the lows and not miss a beat. and from what ive heard and looked at, t4s wont do that like the ses will

I think "good" is also sorta subjective.
It really is. When I think of a "good" sub, I think of something that's accurate and moderately efficient. I want something that'll represent a double bass drum accurately, handle a decent amount of power and yield solid output.

Other people think a "good" sub yields massive spl and handles ungodly amounts of power. They aren't concerned with accuracy, and only want to hit 150 on a termlab.

I'm not going to talk $hit about anyone's equipment, so if you like Soundstream that's your opinion. Pesonally, I'd look elsewhere. Sure, the T4's have an attractive pricetag, but sometimes spending a little more money is the right thing to do. It all depends on what you're looking for in a subwoofer...

u can't go wrong with any of the subs, all of them are great. Se's have a good sound quality, but i believe theyre are lacking at tad bit in output. t4's have more output but will lack a lil in sound quality, but they don't sad bad by any means. But if your looking at the se's as an upgrade to the w3's, i doubt u will find any noticeable difference between the two. Both are good sq drivers.

Well that's not really a fair comparison. I mean you can have a powerful sub that has a good, smooth response even if it's not got razor accuracy and it sounds good for 90% of the music that's thrown at it. If you're not going to testing the thing with lots of low-freq harmonies and speedy technical rhythms, then as long as it has a good sound when hitting the low tones I'd as it's fine, right?

That's what I'm getting at is all. "Good" is largely dependent on what you're throwing at it. What sounds good with bass-heavy rap or electronica might not be accurate enough for speed metal or jazz, and something that's got the accuracy for really subtle/complex music won't have the power for the price.

You might need a 9 or 10 on the accuracy scale because of your musical choices, but when the song just has sub-80Hz tones done on the computer then as long as it can hit them without sounding like an ox fart it's all gravy.
