Steve from RD audio was nice enough to send me a sub to play with, the Sonance 12" SQ based sub. Here are the general specs on it, unfortunately I have no real specs on it yet since none are available from the RD website. I really didnt have a way to test this sub in my Jeep since ive gone to a wall for two 18's, so I enlisted my girlfriend's car for the testing. She's got a small DHD 300 watt amplifier wired to mono, which will be just fine for this low power application. The enclosure is a 3 cubic foot box tuned to 30 hz, which still is kinda on the high side for size and type of sub, but the interior was stuffed a bit with polyfill to reduce resonances. The sub for this test was a prototype basket, Steve says the sold product will retain the non four spoke basket. Below are the general specs and pics.
Cast basket
Resign spiders
Integrated tinsel leads
Non pressed paper pulp cone with Kevlar fibers
Foam surround
Long excursion motor structure
2" extreme temp voice coil
700 watts RMS
Low carbon front and back plates
Spider bolted down to basket
Available in 10/12/15"
Dual four ohm voice coils
My listening material was mostly rap and top 40. To start with, I put in a mix cd of Yo Gotti, Young Jeezy and Slim Thug. First impressions, good clean low bass. Actually, I thought it played a little too low //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif My normal listening tastes is 40-50 hz peaky notes (thats just the SPL guy in me though), but this sub really did do well on the low notes and it actually rattled the hell out of the dash and cupholder... something I didnt expect from the class of sub and the low power applied. I thought the sub sounded well on techno, dance, and rock as well with Metallica's "one" sounding tight and crisp sounding.
Price - im still not sure. I dont know what Steve plans to sell these for, but I wouldnt imagine them being super expensive. I really didnt think putting the Termlab on this was worth the effort since this was a branded SQ sub to start with. Additionaly, I had no RTA so I was unable to provide any measurement, just general opinion of the sub which sounded pleasant to me.
