Steve from RD audio was nice enough to send me a sub to play with, the Sonance 12" SQ based sub. Here are the general specs on it, unfortunately I have no real specs on it yet since none are available from the RD website. I really didnt have a way to test this sub in my Jeep since ive gone to a wall for two 18's, so I enlisted my girlfriend's car for the testing. She's got a small DHD 300 watt amplifier wired to mono, which will be just fine for this low power application. The enclosure is a 3 cubic foot box tuned to 30 hz, which still is kinda on the high side for size and type of sub, but the interior was stuffed a bit with polyfill to reduce resonances. The sub for this test was a prototype basket, Steve says the sold product will retain the non four spoke basket. Below are the general specs and pics.

My listening material was mostly rap and top 40. To start with, I put in a mix cd of Yo Gotti, Young Jeezy and Slim Thug. First impressions, good clean low bass. Actually, I thought it played a little too low //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif My normal listening tastes is 40-50 hz peaky notes (thats just the SPL guy in me though), but this sub really did do well on the low notes and it actually rattled the hell out of the dash and cupholder... something I didnt expect from the class of sub and the low power applied. I thought the sub sounded well on techno, dance, and rock as well with Metallica's "one" sounding tight and crisp sounding.

Price - im still not sure. I dont know what Steve plans to sell these for, but I wouldnt imagine them being super expensive. I really didnt think putting the Termlab on this was worth the effort since this was a branded SQ sub to start with. Additionaly, I had no RTA so I was unable to provide any measurement, just general opinion of the sub which sounded pleasant to me.

im confident, that with this review you dont know a **** thing about sound quality.

i will take whatever you say with a grain of salt. the comments "it played too low for me" and "i like 40 to 50 hz notes"

this review makes me sick to my stomach actually.

I agree, with a touch less conviction though.

Wanted to say something. Glad someone came out and said it first.

Dont worry req, I never have taken anything you've said with anything more than a grain of salt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

as far as a review, I never once said it was. So, you sir, make me sick //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

as for amp testing, no one sent me an amp to test with....so.... I grabbed whatever I found in the shop. If someone wants to send me an amp, i'll be happy to power it properly.

wow, that made me giggle punkman.

Re: RD Audio Sonance SQ Sub Tests and Pics

my bad. i meant "sound quality sub test" ... i dont know what would be worse, a review or a strictly SQ SUB TEST when you have no inclination towards sound quality at all. or your own personal review... because a review is of your oppinion, and a SUB TEST is like, almost a thesis based awnser based on your given equipment - aka the RD sub.

id rather call what you did a review of said equipment, and not a "test" of how well it reproduces music fidelity. because your review is an oppinion. and oppinions are like assholes, and yours smells like shit.

i hope you take no offense, because this is just the interwebnet, but it saddens me to see a sub designed for SQ given to somone who knows nothing about it.

I saw the sonace at the comp in Midway, Ga. last weekend... looked like a real solid sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I love the basket, too.

I dont know which statement exactly makes you appear to seem more of a 12 year old than the other.... maybe all of them, so no..., I take no offence.

im not going to debate what I know of SQ and not, since you're clearly no judge nor jury... Nor are you anyone else.
