RCAs making amp protect?

Is this possible? Equipment is a Treo TSX75.2 and Sony gtx50. I was hooking up the amp in my vehicle. My process was first the ground wire, then the power wire, then the remote, lastly the RCAS. As soon as the RCAS touched the RCA inputs, the protect light went on. Are the RCAs making it protect, or will an amp not protect until rcas are hooked up anyway??

you hooked it up in the wrong order and probably fried something. You should have everything off then do RCAs, Speaker wire, Power, Turn-on, Ground in that order.

hmm...I have always hooked up amps this way, and never had an issue

yes, i probley should have, but wouldnt be the first time I havent...

Its possible you popped the amp when the RCA's were plugged in. It can cause a dead short on the inputs or if you were playing music at the time the gains might have been too high for the power you were feeding it.

The order you hook it up doesn't matter. What matters is not powering on the amp until you double check all connections and have the gain at 0V. Then you can power on the amp and gradually turn up the gain while playing music. The slower you bring the amp up on power, the less likely you are to blow something.
