Rainbow SLC install

Might I suggest some clay or foam tape on the top & bottom of that baffle?

It will help clean up the midbass. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Nice job on the install! What song is that in the vid?

Yeah, when I deaden the doors, I plan to stuff foam behind them...I hadn't thought about using clay, thanks for the suggestion

ugh im in such a bad place...i want rainbow comps so bad...but with the MDF im gonna need and the sound deadening i dunno if its going to be worth it...since my car is a lease...how bad is it without deadening?

Honestly no way to tell. It really depends on how much midbass you expect to get out of them.

If you want tons of midbass *depending on the car* the door will rattle pretty badly. Deadener is used to weigh down the panels (among other things) so that the woofer has little chance of vibrating the panel it's bolted to. If you can let the midbass go, and just ordered some closed cell foam like ensolite or damplifier you'd be alright. You can add a small amount of deadener & foam to the area behind the speaker and that will give you a little bit better response.

You just have to have realistic expectations.

Just to make sure we're on the same track...

I assume, by "foam" you mean closed-cell?

That's not the same function as the clay. The clay goes between the speaker and the baffle, in addition to between the baffle and the door. It acts as a decoupler. Think of it as softening the blow of the speaker if you will. It gives more "cushion for the pushin'" lol. In essence it absorbs some of the impact which causes extra vibration in the panel and allows for better midbass output.

I'll let you know how much of a difference the deadener makes and that will help you judge

yep, closed-cell.

Oh, I've seen that done before...I may try it out

those speakers rock man. I have some crappy P&S (i live in cold washington state) and my 265 Kick's (when i got to listen to them for just a little bit) KICKED ***. so much frekin midbass.......

I dampened the doors and I'm now powering them with 125 watts each from an MTX 502 as opposed to the 70 watts from the MTX 564...they really came alive...awesome midbass, very crisp and loud. My ID10 will be coming next week to complete my system.

You can kind of get an idea of the midbass from the distortion in this video...its pretty impressive IMO, the 55 watt gain from 70 to 125 made all the difference

I got some SLCs as well except I have 3ways. Very nice install and the midbass is better than I thought lol

I still got to build door pods and another tweeter pod and fix my other tweeter pod......

Its hard to build and drive daily, I hate having to drive around in a disassembled truck

that 350z has the same speaker connector as my skyline //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif not exciting now that i think about it lol
