I would think if you had enough to do both the inside and the outside of the door, then do it. Try to fill in the large holes of the door with something first though.

It will improve your midbass response significantly as your door will act like a box for your front speakers.

I did 2 layers of BXT on both inner an outer. If you have that much why not use it? For the hell of it ill post some of my BXT deadening.

You can do both. I used 1/4" mdf with some self tappers and it worked perfect. I jus wanted it to be as dead as it can be an using the wood seemed like the way to go.
