"snickering" towards JL systems?

And as far as the warranty goes, if the shop you go to is worth a danm, they will have a computer with records of people who have bought things, and papers will be easily printed out.

I realize that your internet brands are going to be cheaper, I don't have to design a system to compare with yours.

Why are companies like Rainbow, Zapco, and McIntosh all so expensive? Surely, they are overpriced. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.

yes you can, im not fighting you there. there are reasons they price the unit like they do. different patents. different tooling, componets used, QUALITY. that effects the price.
im saying JL is not the only company that costs a lot. so there should not be a thread every month *****ing about it.
Seriously!!! Research and development to some is more important than glancing around, looking for the lowest possible price tag.
At the JL build facility, they showed us the w6v2 assembly line. They have a little booth that is sound proof, and each woofer gets tested by hand in there to assure it plays perfectly. They have a red light that flashed on if they come across one with any type of flaw, and ASSEMBLY IS HALTED if a problem is found.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe too many companies out there do this that are selling their products on the internet. If I am mistaken, I'm sorry.

people will still whine. oh well.
have you seen many numbers with w7s in somewhat of a higher tuned box in any hatches.. Im thinking i might try street B with a 97 talon next yr, built a box for a 13w7off a 1000/1 in a 99 eclipse for a friend of mine tuned to 40 and did a 145.7 @ 54 hz .. Not to shabby for a what it was.. rattles like crazy tho:crap:

I'd be interested to see how a W7 would perform in a large, higher tuned box. Never tried it, because JL doesn't make their products for those purposes, but I bet the results would be higher on the mic than of a spec box.

ive built a few for mine sizes and tuning from 1.8-3.0^ft and 28-38 hz, i have a my box tuned @ 31 hz and 2.2^3 now and did a 143.6 @46 hz w my TL in a trunk car , ( 96 grand am ) i could get quite a bit more out of it but its just not worth it, the cars been to hell and back

(which he owns his own) names Chris Mcdougle. he went to finals this year. with a new box. with 2 13's

Not bad for subs that aren't designed to be mic monsters. 6 cubes seems a bit excessive.

yea i really need a hatch.. I know for sure id be in the high 40s hopefully 150 street B.. I need to get a few bassrace and street trophies from DBdrag, its a lil hard tho when the nearest show is 6 + hrs away all the time, then i end up seeing all the sound mekanix guys down there and loose anyways

he beat that sub to hell. and it still works great.
I noticed after a few burps and my coils started smellin on my 12 they lost alot of the punch and volume.. on avg 2.5- 3 db worth.. Well see what happens with a 12 in a 4^ft box @ 40 hz in the talon this time.. im betting 146again

is that typical after the coils start heating up to loose that much spl? my re sx did the same thing but much sooner and less lenght on the tones.. I usually play 45-50 hz tones for about 5 seconds, after playing around in some bassrace songs for about 10 minutes.. averaging 139.2:D

Someone mentioned you get what you pay for. Well, that seems to be the exact topic in question in this case, and I don't think you can just pass it off as truth without a thorough examination of competing products in the market, either online or in local shops. Competition might have been light back 14 years ago, but today you can get a heck of a lot for your money. Brands like DD, Fi and RE to an extent make it hard to just look at JL's higher prices and agree "you get what you pay for".

Finally, since I was the OP here I feel I should get this clear too, since someone said "who are you to criticize peoples buying decisions"; I'm not the one doing the critic! I merely noticed several people, and from the response to this thread clearly there are a lot out there who think that, yes, JL Audio certainly has a spot in car audio but no, that spot is not at the top.

This is in contrast with a seemingly "accepted" image from somewhere in the car audio scene and spun either through clever marketing, word of mouth, or some combination of the two that JL products are somehow automatically superior, if nothing but for the two consonant letters printed on their products. Ask a relatively uneducated car audio enthusiast (aka n00b) and more than likely you'll hear "dub 7". Ignorance? Spidey senses? And perhaps most importantly, at least for the sake of this discussion, does his uneducated response bear any truth?
