personally i don't think you pay for the name with Alpine. With their amps possibly, but the rest is reasonable. JL DEFINATLY makes you pay for the name, as well as Rockford. You can get a sub with the same power handling for almost half the price from alpine.

i have'nt heard a JL so i really cant say, but i don't think any difference in quality is enough to be worth double the money.
