"Have you blown a sub?" [no] POLL (fuque)

Never blown any kind of speaker... including my factory VW tweets that were running along with the hex tweets for a couple days active on my D6 600.4 just for fun...

I was working on it, but somebody came and rescued it. It's in his HT now; old dented Pioneer IMPP 10"

I was gonna put the hurt on it with my Hifonics freeair in the driveway. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Other than that, no, never on accident.

I did blow up an amp once.. f*cking hifonics. =-\

I thought it was cool playing 20hz test tones on a 15" L7 in a box tuned to 35hz.. Id throw a napkin behind me rear sets in front of the box and it would just stick to my rear hatch due to all the air coming out of the port... It was awsome until a tinsel lead snapped in half.. Only sub I have "blew".. It was probably repairable, but I just sent it in to kicker and had a new one within a week //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I blew about 4 or 5 audiobahns before I finally just decided to save up some money and get better subs. AUDIOBAHN BLOWS!!! I also blew some infinity kappa perfect components, audiobahn components, and mb quart reference components. Also, just recently I blew the massive 6.5" factory sub that came in my new Suzuki Grand Vitara.

Are there any speakers that prevent themselves from blowing? Too much or too little power, too much excursion or heat?
Not that I am aware of. Too little power will not blow a sub, unless you are trying to exceed the "safe" power levels to increase spl by cranking the volume to the point of clipping so bad and/or for so long the voice coil melts.

The only subs I have ever blown were two Earthquake 12's I had in some funky face to face isobaric enclosure. This was back in the early 1990s. We were experimenting with enclosures and didn't care if the speakers died. We came upon them cheap and they were pretty old. They lasted a few weeks before going down in a stinking mess of smoke.

I had one lanzar 10 junk out on me, not sure what caused it but a chunk of the surround came up missing one day.

Blew an orion amp though. It would blow fuses as soon as I put them in.
