"Dirty" Power?

Dirty power is clipped power. Some amps clip well before they do rated power. One example of this is the Hifonics 1608D. Its rated for 1600wrms@1 ohm, but starts clipping as early as 800wrms@1 ohm. Some amps do rated power without clipping.

ok so clipping is considered dirty power. i keep hearing audiopipe is bad about that. i know thats "he say". but i hear alot of people say they like

them anyway. i was looking at a AP3000d but looked at people on here talk about dirty power. So i dont know to much about the AP

I don't know if this is considered dirty power, but iirc amps have a dampening factor which says how well the amp controls the woofers. The way it was explained to me was that when amp reaches a certain point on a peak or dip of the sine wave, the amp basically loses control and "throws" the sub the rest of the way. I'm assuming that leads to some distortion.

because ive seen alot of mixed reviews. im not gonna be trying to overload the amp all im really wanting is about 2200rms. but for the price of the ap3000d. its not a bad deal.

I'm not a fan of the AP's.

I did a direct comparison between my AP and 9.1, and even though the 9.1 is rated 300w less, the 2 15's we were using sounded much cleaner and quite a bit louder. I'm the person that feels like if you can't do a system that big right, do it smaller.

i mean id use the whole 3k if the hdc3 can take it playing constant on music. i mean i know it can handle alot tho. but i was reading ohm loads and got confused. its like 1500rms x 2 @1ohm & 3000rms x 1 @ 2 ohm????

You should ask the people who use that term what it means. You rarely see anyone with much of an education level using that term.

Clipping isn't "dirty" it's just the USER trying to drive the amp past it's limitations. Distortion is distortion, and on

You get what you pay for. Tons of ppl use the pipe amps with decent results and they seem a fair value at the price you can get them for.... though they are not 1 ohm stable.

Look into Lanzar OPTI line or Maxxsonics stuff. They all make reliable 2000W range amps.

not sure y this didnt quote?

A lot of people rag on AP because it supposedly puts out dirty power, but I haven't seen a single o-scope test proving that theory. I have been using my AP at full throttle @ 1 ohm for a few months now. That's 1500w, going to a 1000w sub, and I haven't had a single problem yet.
