quick Speaker wire question

is 16 guage speaker wire enough for 500w? i plan on getting a new amp an giving 8-1200w , will that be too much?

also, is poplar ok wood for the dowels used in bracing a box?

Beyond 250wpc, 16g isn't really enough. It'll work but not ideal. 500w, I'd do 12g.

Are you talking about a real 8-1200w or is that max power?

the sub is rated at 500-600rms, but supposedly it can handle 1000 for music, right now my amp is only doing 500@2 (if that), but in a few months id like to get a new amp to give it more like 800-1000. the 4gu knukoncepts amp kit i got only came with 16guage. i can always change the wire later on, but for now im concerned with 500w.

If we're dealing with RMS 5-600w, 12 g is fine. If you go to 1000w rms you could upgrade but still not necessary.

12gauge should work up to 500W. good news is Monster offers small rolls of twister 12ga at wal mart.

the only problem you might have is finding a box terminal that will easily accept 12 gauge.
