Installing a small amp and sub in a buddys car this weekend, but he doesn't have a aftermarket hu and doesn't want one. So I am going to use a line converter that I have and just use it for the rear speaker wires.

My question is, can I just add the line converter to the rear speakers and keep them working or will I need to completely lose the rear speakers. I'm thinking it is going to effect the signal for the rcas if I keep the rear speakers, but not for sure. He kind of wants to keep the rears speakers for fill.

Also, I haven't had to use a LC in awhile, the one I have has obviously a wire for both pos and neg of the speakers but there is a 5th wire, ground???

Thanks x

I remember doing this about 10 years ago, we had a rental for about 2 weeks while our car was getting fix so I put my sub and amp into the car. I did the same thing that your planning and spliced into the rear speakers wires for a signal with my convertor. As far as I can remember it was fine, didnt effect anything at all. I think it will be fine.

Also, I just took a converter out of my car about a year ago when I was still runnig my stock HU and I know what your taking about with that 5th ground wire. When I didnt ground it, I notice noise in the system but grounded it was fine. Try it either way to see your results.

use wire taps and you should be fine. grond the LOC to some metal somewhere.

you do not need to loose your rear speakers. it does not effect them at all, the signal is not the greatest with a line converter but its the best youll get without an aftermarket HU. that 5th wire is a ground that you were talking about.
