Quick install question

I have a 2002 chrsyler 300m special, and I was just wondering if it would be bad if my sub is pointed upwards in the trunk, with about 3 inches of clearance between the sub and the trunk roof..it`s the only way it will fit. I CAN get an extra inch of clearance, but if it won`t sound any different then I won`t go through the trouble. Thanks for any help!!
