Quick help on amp choice

I'm going to be running 4 Alpine Type-R 12's into a 1 ohm load in my cobalt. Need to find an amp that will efficiently run these subs, but if possible.. an amp that wont require me to upgrade the batt or alt. I currently have the Hifonics BXi 1606D

but will running this amp at 1 ohm require an upgrade of either the batt or alt? I'm Looking at buying from http://www.onlinecarstereo.com, seeing that I'm buying my head unit from this site. Price range is $300-$550.. any suggestions would be great, be great if I could run an all alpine set-up

Thanks for any help

If the BXi1606D running at 1 Ohm would necessitate you doing an upgrade that you'd rather avoid then perhaps running quad Type Rs is a bit beyond your reach currently.

The RMS on them is 500w, no?

Most people run them considerably harder.

But just going by the RMS rating....500w X 4 subs = 2kW (which is more than your current HiFonics amp will even think about making)

See where I'm going with this? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

^ Agreed. Type R's can take a beating. 800W to as much as 1500W RMS each isn't unheard of.

The BXi2607D would be a much better fit from Hifonics (would give approx 600W RMS to each sub).

Actually, one quick question while I think of it... would just upgrading the battery to an Optima Yellowtop be good enough, or would I have to do the Batt/Alt combination upgrade? To run a bigger amp that is
