(quick) Fuse alt to bat

Im upgrading some of my wiring right now, and Im unsure if the fuse from the alternator to the battery should go near the battery or alt. I know from the battery you put the fuse near it obviously since its the source. Does the same thing apply to the alt, and I should put it near the alt since thats the power source to the battery? Or no?

Need an answer ASAP. Thanks guys.

close to the battery, i have 2 though, one close to the batt and to the alt for super extra protection, although before that i had no fuses between that for about 2 years and never had any problems till i crashed and the wired shorted out and killed my batt and alt, im just being very cautious now, you never know wat might happen..
