what are they really used for, and do they do their intended job well? where do you buy them?
huh? Exactly what difference would you expect a carpeted dash to make in the sound quality of your system?so you're saying they make no difference in SQ in any case?
I remember seeing a thread about this somewheres....can't remember if it was real or sarcasm, but I saw it somewhere as well.thats the question.... i have seen a few people with high end SQ installs with dashmats on thier dashes.
might be some truth to that.i have no speakers in my dash or pillars so it probably wouldn't make any difference for me anyway.
maybe there aren't really many people here into SQ to know in the first place.
Yeah thats somethin that would fall under having a leather interior compared to a cloth interior???????i posted the same question on DIYMA and some people are saying they help with SQ. i could see it taming harsh highs caused by reflections off of the dash and windshield.

We car audio people don't use them for their "intended use". Their intended use is pretty much as Rich B said.what are they really used for, and do they do their intended job well? where do you buy them?

But what we use them for is to help with taming reflections from the dash/windshield. Some people have noticed a slight change in imaging/etc with using them. Though I've not seen any sort of before/after FR plots, so it's pretty hard to say how much of it is placebo and how much is actually affecting the response. But a lot of competitors do/used to use some sort of dash mat.
