questions on dashmats

Theres only two reasons to use a dashmat.

Either to cover up a cracked dash, or to preven the dash from crackimg due to exposure to the sun.

There are treatments to prevent UV damage, so unless its already cracked........yech!

i posted the same question on DIYMA and some people are saying they help with SQ. i could see it taming harsh highs caused by reflections off of the dash and windshield.

i have no speakers in my dash or pillars so it probably wouldn't make any difference for me anyway.

maybe there aren't really many people here into SQ to know in the first place.

might be some truth to that.

My ideal setup is something I can crank at 90 on the interstate with the windows down and still be able to hear/feel it over the wind. Pretty much no SQ involved there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

mine's in the mail. and it's suede //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
nice!

what i guess i'm looking for will probably not be answered here in this forum, most people here just want to be loud.

what are they really used for, and do they do their intended job well? where do you buy them?
We car audio people don't use them for their "intended use". Their intended use is pretty much as Rich B said.

But what we use them for is to help with taming reflections from the dash/windshield. Some people have noticed a slight change in imaging/etc with using them. Though I've not seen any sort of before/after FR plots, so it's pretty hard to say how much of it is placebo and how much is actually affecting the response. But a lot of competitors do/used to use some sort of dash mat.

I'm no expert, but have my tweeter on the a pilars. When you use a dash mat it controls a lot of the reflections from the dash and kill a lot of harshness. I don't think it will work if you have your speakers on the door or kick panels. If you are planning on buying one, the cheapest is to go to the autozone web, type dashmat on the search box. That will redirect you to the dashmat web page, but you will get a discount of aprox 10 dlls. Don't ask my why, but it works.
