i have a older fosgate amp and the problem i am having is strange

all the wireing is set up right but once i connect my rca the amp over heats and shuts down any ideas on this

fosgates usually get extremely hot, try running a couple fans onto it. the outside (part u see ) is a heat sink, maybe your amp need some kind of cooling aspect.

but there is no sound coming out at all, even when it frist powers up

but it stays cool until i plug in the rca cables

Where's the gain set at?

the gain is set a little under half, i dont think it is the gain would there be a reason the rcas might send a overloaded signal

if all your inputs spec out as good, run the amp without the rca's & speaker connects, if the amp is okay then plug in your rcas. If it shutsdown on just the rca's you're pretty much looking at a cooked amp. Take to a local shop and have them peak under the hood.
