Question Re: 12w6v2

Thanks limitkid7,

Were you running 2 in your taurus, if so did you use caps or battery to prevent light dimming? and when you say 500 rms to each, do you mean 2 - jl 500/1?

Im personally leaning towards just one 12w6v2 with a 500/1, i had a 500/1, sold it to a cousin who eventually ruined it, in my jeep and it didnt seem to affect my jeep, but i want to be safe, I commute 30 miles to work so thats 60 a day and dont want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere.

ok i had z1000d in a ford escort.....

12w6v2 was running @ 2ohms when i had 1 - 750 watts rms sealed

upgraded to a 2nd 26ve ran that at 1ohm 1000 rms which was 500 watts per speaker.. i did have a aap and it did prevent the lights from dimming but to each their on on the cap subject

i can understand why you want to get the 12w6v2 but why the jl amp?

Hey peteNYC,

Did you see the HO box where you got the prowedge? I will most likely get the prowedge to save space, but i saw that there are the HO boxes for the 12w6v2.

@Limitkid7 - I have used it in the past and liked its performance, i have had little to compare it to but i want to have the setup in my car that i willl for along time, and dont want to do it wrong, since you have had these is there a cheaper amp that will perform just as good for 1 jl12w6v2? im not trying to spend more money or anything, just want to do things right, in the past i spent less only to end up wanting more.

@ guantlet - I hadnt planned on amping the component's

@limitkid7 - the first picture - did you have two amps on 1 12w6v2? or is that your w7?

also if i am going with just one 12w6v2 is the zeus better or the brutus? I have never used hifonics so i dont know much about them.

i am running a w6v2 of a tru technology Hammer amp. The amp at 2ohm is putting out 1000wrms and the sub is in a 1.25 cu.ft sealed enclosure. It plays fast and accurate and can get low also. Oh did i also mention it can get loud.

Wow.....nice amp you lucky bastard. LOL

hey jdowney...........

Yeah, the HO box is the bigger enclosure with more cubic footage?

The Prowedge is strictly for the need for space. I'm going to keep it behind the 3rd row of my Explorer running off of a JL500/1. Right now I have a 1.5cu.ft sealed enclosure made of 3/4" MDX. How much better (or worse) will the 12W6V2 sound in JL's Prowedge factory box next to my sealed 1.5 MDX box??

PS= I saw that HO box at Uncle Steve's on Canal Street in NYC (the non-original Uncle Steve's... theyre more honest) They also had the one that holds the W7 with the fancy 3 bars across the front, I forgot the name. They stock the dual Prowedge but had to order the single one.

Please one of you guys let me know how the prowedge sounds next to my box.

you want 1.25 cu.ft for the 1 12w6v2 and that is what they rate it at its best for a sealed encloser. I have 2 kicker zr240's 1 on each sub and there great and cheap. Not to cheap but you can get one if you can find one for around 175 or so. there high current amps so there alot more than what there rated at. You will prob need a cap for it. I am running them 2 ohms and the amps are 300x1 2ohms. but the birth sheet with them put them over 700x1 at 2ohms. So thats a good area to be at for one, fig around 500 or so. I have no complaints about mine at all. and if you were in upstate I would say come by and check it out.

2 amps 1 was for insides 1 was for the 12w6v2.

i wouldn't invest in a hifonics amp all i'm saying is that you might want to consider other amps beside JL to run the w6v2

@limitkid7 - Any suggestions on what amp worked best worth your 12w6v2 or any amps you wished you had used on them while you had them? i will consider other amps but not based on specs only, from people who have had this setup or similiar and can say what worked or didnt you know what i mean? i said i was planning on the 500/1 because i know it will work for the setup i want, i have heard it as well, in store, which may be diffrent in vehicle though.

im still not sure what to do regarding the alternator or caps, i used a cap for my 2 - 15's and it didnt seem to help all that much, so i am leaning towards installing a high output alternator and/or depending on the cost a yellow or red top.

ok so far i have decided on the 1 - 12w6v2 in the prowedge box

as for the:

amp - i am considering the 500/1 and i will have to check out the kenwood, if you have seen the sub ran off that amp then i will most likely get it, i will be buying and installing all this via a local shop, well not my local shop, the local shop closest to me that can give me the best deals, so ill have to see what people charge for the kenwood as opposed to the 500/1 but i am pretty sure the kenwood will be cheaper at the stores.

Speakers - I honostley dont know much about speakers as opposed to component speakers, but from what i remember, about 3 years ago since i was really into car audio before i had to kind of give it up, i was told i would not be able to install components because of my door panels, not sure if that was true, but as far as they go i was always impressed with boston acoustics, but really like the focals and mb quarts, but have only heard them once per brand.

@limitkid7 - i have never used an alternate battery so sorry to ask such a newbie question but, how long do they last, roughly, where do they generally install them, and how much should they generally cost total plus installing it?

side note - forgot to mention in my first post my h/u, i am not sure if this will change anything but it might as far as if i would really need to amp my front speakers or not.

I have a pioneer 8500mp but might have a pioneer 8600mp in a few weeks, i think they are pretty much the same spec wise though.
