question about wiring mono blocks

I ran 0 gauge 0FC tinned leads to the back. big 3 will be done with 2/0 welding wire before I get the sub in and everything. Stock alt unfortunately and no battery. at 4 ohms I was actually seeing the rated 500 watts though and that was tested with a DMM. I realise I wont actually be seeing 14.4v. more like 13

my questions is how ever. Is it alright to underpower the sub that much?

What do you think you are doing when you turn your volume down?

As long as your amp is set up properly all it will mean is that you will not see the full potential of your sub.
