Question about fusing

Ive heard fusing is always safe and I just recently had a run in with a + touching a - and my ignition switch shorting out due to not fusing. My question is how are you supposed to know what size fuse your supposed to used for what wire? Lets take a remote wire for example... What would be the best size and type of fuse to use for this wire?

That wire only carries a few milliamps of current. I'd say 1 or 2 amps of fuse is plenty. I don't fuse mine, instead I just don't work on live wires. Only idiots do that. Take your fuse out on your power wire. if you're going to move amps around. If you're dealing with remote wires, DON'T HAVE YOUR HEAD UNIT ON WHEN YOU'RE WORKING!!!! Geez. It really doesn't take a genius to know this. If your head unit weren't on, then there was no voltage on your remote wire and thus no current could be drawn through it.

I think of fusing more as a long term safety thing rather than to protect me directly. Say one of your wires gets a hole worn in the insulation and it shorts.

I wouldn't worry much about fusing the remote power. I am pretty sure the head unit would have that internally fused, but if it makes you feel a bit better, the smallest fuse (
