Question about digital signal processors

Hello all,

I am new to the car audio game and I had a question about digital signal processors. I did a little research on them to figure out what they are and I understand they convert an analog signal (i.e. the radio) to a digital signal and clean it up. Is that correct?

I know that the signal from radio is only so good of quality, so I wondered if a DSP would improve the sound quality that you get from listening to radio. Would it in effect, be like HD radio?

The reason I ask is because I am thinking about putting a sound system in my next car and I would like to get good sound quality when listening to radio and not just my own music stored on CDs or USB.

Thanks
