Punishment too hard?

quit football? you have to be kidding. thats terrible parenting in my opinion. take away something else. i'm sorry but you dont teach your kid anything by being a dick.
no offense. i would be wicked pissed if i were you.
I have taken his shit a countless amount of time, sometimes you have to do something extreme so they will know you are serious. My stepson was talking shit to my wife a couple of years ago,she made his *** get out of the house for a night, you couldn't pay his *** a million dollars to fucc with her or do something she told him not to.

after reading your replies i hear it.

i just dont think taking away something constructive is the way to go. perhaps completely taking the computer away until he gets B's?

or the TV?

make him get a job.

sorry if my reply was harsh. i would have killed my parents if they tried to take sports away from me.

how far is the hood? how far is like a really REALLY bad part of town? take him on a ride there, drop him off without his cell phone. See if he wants to live that kind of life cause that's where he's headed .

I would not make him quit football but you kinda ****ed up this screw up by pulling that out so my vote is to wait until he screws up again and do something a bit extreme but make sure it is something that will not affect anything positive in his life (ie: football) such as no computer for a month or cell phone or something.

Props to you for taking the computer away in the first place, my step brother (17) would absolutely flip his script if you tried to do that do him and his mom would give in after a few hours. You did however screw up with this one IMO as football is something positive for him that should probably not be taken away as I believe they take it away anyway if you have poor grades no?

BTW My dad kicked my *** my entire life growing up and it never did shit to set me straight, I think if they did more 'taking away' of things I liked it may have worked better.

After that last statement please leave the thread as I sure as hell don't want your advice lol

Oh dude, you need to have the "fear of you" put into him at an early age...
By the way you make it sound, he practically ignores you and does what he wants. You can't start barking orders out of nowhere and expect him to listen. You shoulda been doing that the entire time, and any time he didn't listen, you shoulda punished him 3 fold. That way by the time he's in high school, he automatically knows to listen, OR ELSE.

But then again, punishing him by taking away the school activities is kinda harsh, which is probably why he didn't listen. Those activities are the best parts about school. The rest practically **** a nut. Let him have his activities or he'll decide not to go to school and that's much worse.
I agree with you,I fucced up early on but now what? i'm trying to prepare him for the real world

agreed. does he drive? take away his keys. Im 17, and personally, there is no worse punishment than losing my car. If my parents made me quit sports it would make me want to defy them even more. If he does have a car and he really fuccs up sell that bish

I think I see the problem. Are the people posting kids or parents cause if you are a kid then I understand why you are against what I'm doing.I should have used a poll.

He has no car.

You will get a lot of kids here, I am 30 but no kids. Just giving my advice but I think everyone agrees that taking football away was probably not the best way to go about this especially the guy who would kill himself over it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
