protect sub?

I don't really want to put a grill over my sub, I want to be able to see it. I don't want the JL bars either. What could I do, so that I can see my sub, but protect teh surround.

there are a lot of grills that dont cover up the whole woofer

would a plexiglass cover overheat it if it was in a ported box? (only cover the sub, not port)
