proper amp sizing for my speakers

Hi, I'm building up a new sound system for my vehicle. I picked up 4 MB Quart RKC-113 speakers (discontinued, but apparently from before MB Quart was sold and went downhill). They'e 5.25" coaxials rated at 40-100W.

I also picked up an Alpine MRP-F250, 40wX4.

Is this amp sized appropriately for these speakers, or should I spend the extra $100 to go to the Alpine MRP-F450, which is 70wX4?

The 70W x 4 amp would probably be better but since you have the 40W x 4 one already, you might as well try it out and see how you like it. Pretty much any external amp is going to be better than HU amplification so the just the difference of using an external amp (if you were using a HU internal amp before) might be enough for you. If you feel they could take more/you could use more power then look into a more powerful amp.

If you're deciding between the amps and haven't purchased either, however, I'd probably spend more money and buy the more powerful one.

I already purchased the 40x4, mostly because the salesman convinced me it was right. But then on the way home I thought more about it (buyer's remorse? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif), and had second thoughts.

I haven't installed either - this is a totally new system - so I'm going to return the 40x4 and go for the 70x4. I'm sure I'll be happier with it long term, and if I didn't upgrade now, I'll always be wondering if I should have. Over its useful life the extra $100 won't amount to much (I had my last system for 11-12 years).
