Projector Vs Rear Projection Tv

Ok im thinking of getting an optima hd72 and selling my tv. will their be a noticible decrease in picture quality from my tv to that projector? or will it actually improve with my hd-dvd, blu ray setup?

i know its not an expensive projector but i got 2 grand tops to spend on a projector if i sell my tv which is around what i would get for it maybe even less. and then ill need more money for an lcd tv for every day watching.

or is it just not worth it cause it will be to much of a picture quality difference between the both?

i know theirs better projectors but i am broke. most of hte money will come from selling my tv lol

probably going with a 100 inch screen.

my apartment manager got one that's around 1200 lumens and it's fairly decent. he spent 1200$. the 70 inch screen is probably worth it.

I have an H31, so not HD and the picture on a 92" screen is excellent. I would imagine the HD72 would be even better. I don't use mine for TV viewing.

Go to avsforum and do some reading up on the HD72. Optoma makes a very good pj.

A 100" screen will impress you for sure. Just realize that some DVD's will look like crap as the video quality isn't always the same.

I use a 92" DIY screen and the image is amazing for a $700 total investment. Here's a few screen shots:

dvd's already look like doo doo. well they did when i had my samsung upconversion dvd player or when i play them through the ps3. for most all dvd the toshiba i have doe a great job but im just wondering if hd-dvd and blu ray playback will still look awesome.

found a 92" electric screen online for $199! and probably gonna pick up a 32" vizio from walmart hah for everyday watching.

for everyday i want something around 32" and cheap dont matter the brand but has to be hd at least 720p and an hdmi connection.

any other suggestions for projectors? the optimas seem to be good bang for the buck

I also bought a 32" HD tube TV for the bedroom as that's where I watch TV. Look into a DIY screen as they can be done for $20 with blackout cloth or Parkland plastic. Mine uses Dazian acoustically transparent cloth since the CC speaker is behind it.

LOTS of info on avsforum on the HD72 and DIY screens. For ultimate picture quality you'll need to be able to control the light in your room. The darker the room the better the image, but I can watch with the lights on, just washes the image some.

PS2 is F'ing amazing on a big screen. Do it.....you won't regret it!!!

i think you should keep your tv and then just buy my projector in the classifieds for gaming and what not over 100 inches...only $500!!...but projectors are cool im selling mine cause im a broke college kid

thats old news hahah j/k but i get money here and their all the time yesterday i did some jobs came up with $150 woot hah now i have enough for bills but not for a projector thats why im gonna sell my tv first.

Also look at the Mitsubishi HD1000U for under $900 new with warranty. I plan on getting it in a month or two

i've got a sanyo z4 projector and love it. i've had it for over a year now with no issues; knock on wood. I think that you'll love the optoma projector but one thing you may want to look at is the cost of a replacement bulb, afterall they only last around 3000 hours. it's rolling around for me to get a new bulb and it's gonna be like 350 but I got insurance that covers replacement of the bulb for the first 3 years and it looks like its gonna be worth it. just a little 411, got it from projectionguys.com and spent only 2400 for projector, 25ft hdmi cable, insurance, 92" fixed screen, ceiling mount.
